And so, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience; bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you. And beyond all these things put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity. - COLOSSIANS 3:12-14
It’s an awesome thing to realize God has chosen you to receive a new heart. Mrs. L.G. Gates was my junior high English teacher. More than that, Mrs. Gates led me to Christ. The summer when I was 11 I didn’t want to go to Vacation Bible School, but my mother insisted. Mrs. Gates was our teacher. One day as I stood in a line with the other kids, she pulled me from the line, explained Christ’s salvation, and helped me pray to receive Him.
To be chosen of God means to be selected out from the human mass to be given the heart of salvation. The election of God troubles many, who feel God is exclusive and “politically incorrect.” But when Mrs. Gates chose me that day, she was not rejecting all those other children, she simply saw my readiness to receive the Savior.
So God’s choosing us is based on His foreknowledge. (ROMANS 8:29) He knows those who will receive Him, and He leads them out of the line, and gives them the gift of His eternal life.
Thank God for choosing you. Thank Him that His choice of you was not because of your merit, but because of His divine grace. Thank Him for giving you a willingness to respond to His call.
