“For I know the plans that I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope.”
During the depression in Ireland, the government hired many of the countries men to build roads. Delighted to get a paycheck to take care of their families, they worked hard, often singing their Irish folk songs as they labored. After a few weeks, the men discovered that the roads they were commissioned to build led nowhere. They served no purpose. They merely went off into the bogs. Soon the singing stopped, and the intensity of their labor waned.
One commentator reported simply, “It’s tough to build a road that goes nowhere.” I would add that it’s even tougher to build a life that goes nowhere! Follow God’s plan! It is not only for your welfare, it is to give you a future and a hope – a life that goes somewhere.
