“God, after he spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, in these last days has spoken to us in His Son…” - Hebrews 1:1-2a
There is a story about a time when Ingmar Bergman, the famous Swedish movie producer, was listening to the music of Tchaikovsky. While he listened, he imagined himself walking into a cathedral. As he walked, he stopped in front of a picture of Jesus. He stood in front of that picture and said, “Speak to me. I will not leave this cathedral until You speak to me.” But the picture did not speak.
Let me say as clearly as I can – God is a God who speaks. He spoke through the prophets of old, and He has spoken through Jesus, and He speaks to us today through His Word, the Bible. If you want to hear God speak, pick up the Bible. Read Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, the four gospels, and pray Bergman’s prayer: “Speak to me.” I guarantee He will. He will speak through His Word, and the Holy Spirit will take that word and apply it – and it will change your life.
